In Europe, by lunchtime, all major indices were also down.
In the UK, the FTSE was down nearly 3%.
In Germany, the DAX was down nearly 2%.
In France, the CAC-40 was down more than 3%.
The Eurpoean markets seem to be coming up from their bottoms in the late afternoon, but the general mood is at best one of uncertainty, at worst one of panic.
